Book Donations

Donations of books are appreciated by the library. Catholic clergy and religious may donate without limit or restriction. Please contact the library if the donation is large.

PLEASE CONTACT LIBRARY STAFF BEFORE DELIVERING A DONATION. PLEASE DO NOT DROP DONATIONS OFF AT THE ARCHDIOCESE, SEMINARY, OR LIBRARY WITHOUT PRIOR ARRANGEMENT.

We can receive the following types of items from members of the public:

  • Catholic theology books in very good condition
  • Philosophy books in very good condition
  • Antiquarian books (Pre-1890) and rare books
  • First editions
  • Classic literature in very good condition

We cannot accept magazines or newspapers. We cannot accept items that have been stored in garages, attics, or basements. We cannot accept damaged items. Donations that exceed 2 boxes must include a printed inventory list. Donations become the property of the Cardinal Stafford Library and will be used or disposed of in the manner chosen by library staff. An acknowledgment of a donation can be provided for tax purposes. The library staff will not assess the value of items for tax purposes.

Other places to donate books include parishes, Catholic schools, universities, public libraries, and charities such as Goodwill.
